Early Years Excellence Programme

Early Years Excellence Programme

Delivered by the Early Excellence team (leading provider of early years services in the North), the overall aim was to improve the quality of learning for children in the EYFS and Year 1 by strengthening the use of assessment (tools) in the EYFS to secure deep level learning.

The programme involved improving transition for children as they move from Reception to Year 1 and aligning approaches to learning between Reception and Year 1.

Emphasis was also given to establishing continuity and consistency of assessment approaches between Early Years and Year 1.

The programme also included delivery of resources and two school/setting visits by training practitioners with a specific focus on interaction and assessment & transition and pedagogical continuity between EYFS and KS1.

Project Outcomes:

Evaluating the impact of this programme was based on the principles of understanding and supporting young children’s learning development and the implications for practice.

The project was evaluated by the Early Excellence team in July 2014 via an early years cluster group meeting and summarized in terms of a ‘What have we learned? What was the impact?’
