And they're off!

July 13th 2016 saw the return of the CLP Celebration of Sport event at the Harvey Hadden Sports Village in Nottingham.

The event was designed by a group of staff representing each participating CLP school, in order to commemorate the 2016 Rio Olympics and as a legacy of London 2012.

CLP schools also took part in various warm up sports activities throughout the weeks leading up to the event, including relay races between competing schools carrying the special ‘baton’.

They had been practicing their sports skills and getting ready for what turned out to be a wonderful day of fun and athletic activities.

In total over 500 children from 13 CLP schools were represented from all over the central area of Nottingham.

Children representing their schools were separated on arrival into different coloured t-shirted teams and in doing so, the event had been organised so that it was not school against school but rather an opportunity for children to work together in teams and make new friends.

The Sherriff of Nottingham was there to formally open the event and later on the Lord Mayor arrived to present medals and meet some of the competitors.

The way the event was put together helped to ensure that every school had more of an opportunity to return some of the gold, silver and bronze awards back to school.

Later that week, competitors were able to celebrate and share their successes with classmates during special assemblies.

The day itself was enjoyed by everyone with special emphasis on the morning’s agility activities being all about having fun, with the giant inflatable obstacle courses and alternative team events such as ‘human football’, and ‘caterpillar racing’.
