Assessment

As well as a core Assessment Group there has been a working group to focus on Year 4 Reading Assessment.

The Assessment Group meet once a term and is made up of the Assessment lead from each of the participating schools. As well as hearing direct updated from Nottingham City Schools MIT, they share experiences of Tests, Moderation, and predicted results as well as issues with reporting or new resources.
In 16/17 the group also set up a working session of Year 4 teachers to focus on what ‘good’ would look like for end of Year 4 reading. Two working group afternoons resulted in a list of age related texts, assessment statements/framework and sample questions.
This working group will be continuing into 17/18 with three meetings now focussing on Year 4 writing, with the final meeting focussing on moderation.
The first two meetings of the core Assessment group will focus on SIMS - Intervention and Discovery Areas in September and Marking and Feedback in March.

Developing Character Strengths

Developing a school ethos of Character Building has been a key theme since 2015/16.

A CLP Character project group emerged in 2015 and members have been working closely with the Nottingham City Council Sport, Outdoor Learning and Adventure Services (SOLAR) team to develop a draft framework for CLP schools to use.  The framework, based on academic research has been adapted for CLP schools to focus on personal and social character strengths as part of personal development.The whole school approach mirrors the healthy schools framework which many schools are already familiar with. The aim is to embed the language and approaches throughout school life rather than focussing on a single project or lesson.  In addition many schools are linking the work to “Opportunity Notts” as a means of recording the young peoples experiences and achievements. SOLAR provided a 'Train the Trainer' day for school leaders last term and many schools have already started with implementation or planning to start from September.School examples to date include focussing on a separate strength each fortnight, class display boards, staff practice CPD, and specific achievement awards.The joint work of the group also provides joint character building opportunities with other schools in the partnership such as Hot Air Balloon rides, Bushcraft days and a Services event on the Forest.
